“The Jesus That People Don’t Want to See”
John 2:13-25
Sermon Series: “Getting Acquainted With Jesus”

Introduction:  The second chapter of John’s gospel is very interesting because it presents two contrasting sides of Jesus’ character. In the first half of the chapter, we see Him as the friend of sinners at a party. In the second half of the chapter, we see Him cleansing the temple and dealing with sin in a righteous anger. People have problems with both of the pictures of Jesus. People today especially seem to have a problem with the second picture of Jesus because they picture God as meek and mild, their big buddy who exists to give them fulfillment in life. However, Jesus is a God of wrath who judges sin as much as He is a God of love who is merciful to repentant sinners. We can only get acquainted with Jesus by knowing Him for who He really is so let’s look at this picture of Jesus that people don’t want to see.

I. Jesus deals with sin based on anger that is righteous (v. 13-17).

II. Jesus deals with sin based on authority that comes from the resurrection (v. 18-22).

III. Jesus deals with sin based on an assessment that is realistic (v. 23-25).
